Press and Information Officer

The European Union Delegation to Nepal is recruiting a Press and Information Officer in the Political, Press and Information Section.

We are

The European Union (EU) is an economic and political partnership between 27 European countries. It plays an important role in international affairs through diplomacy, trade, development aid and working with global organizations. Abroad, the EU is represented through more than 140 diplomatic representations, known also as EU Delegations, which have a similar function to those of an embassy.

The EU Delegation to Nepal works in close coordination with the Embassies and Consulates of the 27 EU Member States. We are a fully-fledged diplomatic mission and represent the European Union in dealings with the Nepal government in areas that are part of the EU’s remit.

We offer

The post of Press and Information Officer (Local Agent Group 1) in the Delegation’s Political, Press and Information Section. The team consists of 4 people and there are occasional atypical working hours.
Under this post, the recruited person will be attributed functions depending on the needs of the Delegation, and on the changes of these needs. The successful candidate will serve under the supervision and responsibility of the Head of Political, Press, and Information Section, providing support, expertise and assistance in the Political, Press, and Information field.

Following main tasks and duties are currently required:

Media Relations & Communication

  • Serve as the primary contact for Nepali and international media outlets.
  • Draft and disseminate speeches, press releases, media briefings, and articles about EU policies, projects, events etc. in Nepal.
  • Organize press conferences, interviews, and media visits for the Head of Delegation and other EU representatives.
  • Monitor and analyse media coverage of EU-related topics and prepare media reports.

Strategic Communication & Public Diplomacy

  • Develop and implement the Delegation’s communication strategy, in line with EU priorities and policies.
  • Manage the Delegation’s digital presence, including for the intranet and internet as well as social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, X, etc.).
  • Produce high-quality online and offline content, including newsletters, reports, infographics, and audio-visual materials.
  • Ensure visibility of EU-funded projects in Nepal by supporting communication efforts of operational colleagues and project implementing partners.

Event Management & Outreach

  • Plan and execute public diplomacy initiatives such as seminars, cultural events, and information campaigns.
  • Engage with Nepali civil society, academia, think tanks, and business groups to enhance awareness of the EU’s role and partnerships in Nepal.
  • Organize EU-focused events, such as Europe Day celebrations, media training sessions, and youth engagement programs (working closely with the EUD’s Youth Sounding Board).
  • Represent the Delegation at external events and conferences.

Internal Coordination & Reporting

  • Coordinate closely with the operational sectional of the EUD to ensure ‘whole of delegation’ implementation of communication and visibility activities.
  • Manage the EUD’s Press and Information budget, as well as relevant reporting requirements (e.g. STRATCOM) including contribution to annual reporting and planning.
  • Liaise with EU institutions, Member States’ embassies, and development partners on communication matters.
  • Provide media monitoring reports, analysis, and strategic recommendations to the Delegation’s leadership.
  • Support crisis communication and rapid response efforts when necessary.The base salary will depend on relevant and verified employment experience, in the range from NPR 254,593 to 539,676. There is a competitive benefits package, subject to certain conditions, including personal leave days and public holidays, health insurance and a retirement savings plan.

The expected start date will be 12th May 2025.

Minimum requirements / eligibility criteria (necessary for the application to be considered)

  • A university degree in journalism, communications, political science, international relations, or a related field.
  • At least 3–5 years of relevant experience in media, public relations, or communication (experience in an international organization, diplomatic mission, or development sector is an asset).
  • Knowledge of EU institutions, policies, and cooperation with Nepal.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Nepali. Knowledge of additional EU languages (such as French) is an asset.
  • Experience in social media management, digital communication, and event organization.
  • Strong analytical skills, political awareness, and ability to work under pressure.

  • Strong digital literacy and experience with media monitoring tools.
  • Capacity to work in a multicultural environment and adapt to diplomatic protocols.

The process

After the deadline for applications, the eligible applications will be admitted to the Selection by the Committee set up for this purpose.

Depending on the number of applications received, successive phases of Selection may include shortlisting of candidates based assessment of the information provided in the cover letter, CV; practical testing and interviews. A minimum of the two best candidates will be invited to the final interview, test, final phase.

Only candidates admitted to each successive selection phase will be contacted individually. The Delegation will use the same means of publication as for this job advertisement to inform the remaining candidates once the recruitment procedure has been completed and that a candidate has (or has not) been recruited.
