Position: Senior Construction Manager

Duty Station: Kathmandu (40%) with travel to Koshi, Lumbini and Gandaki Provinces (60%)

Reports to: Country Director

Role Summary:

The Senior Construction Manager will be responsible for the overall management of construction projects in order to ensure that they are completed within the time, scope, and budget agreed upon by the UWS Nepal.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leading school construction projects, including but not limited to construction design, project management, and procurement.
  • Develop and manage project schedules, including all necessary resources, to ensure timely completion of school building construction projects.
  • Creating construction drawings, Bill of Quantities, and material specifications for construction.
  • Coordinate with construction officers, building officers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with design specifications, codes, and regulations.
  • Prepare and manage project budgets, including all cost estimates, and track project expenditures.
  • Coordinating with communities on construction-related activities.
  • Liaising with related government agencies for drawing approval.
  • Plan and schedule all construction activities, including site preparation, excavation, foundation work, and building construction, as well as the construction of WASH systems.
  • Supervise construction site activities, including site safety, quality control, and weekly site meetings with building officers and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure that all materials and equipment are ordered, received, and stored in a safe and secure manner.
  • Manage conflict that may arise at the site.
  • Monitor and control project progress, including progress reports and schedule updates, and report any issues or delays to the line manager.
  • Ensure that all construction activities adhere to local laws and regulations, as well as national building codes and standards.
  • Liaise with local authorities, communities, and other stakeholders to ensure that construction projects are completed in a collaborative and inclusive manner.
  • Prepare and submit all necessary reports, including progress reports, financial reports, and any other relevant documentation, to the line manager.
  • Manage and mentor any junior staff members or laborers working on construction projects.
  • Ensure that all construction projects are completed to a high standard of quality, safety, and sustainability.

Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum 3–5 years of progressive experience in construction project management, preferably in school construction, WASH infrastructure, or similar community-based projects.
  • Proven experience in project planning, budgeting, procurement, and contract management.
  • Strong knowledge of local building codes, construction standards, and safety regulations.
  • Experience in liaising with local government authorities and community stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in construction management software, project scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office applications.
