Technical Expert Food Systems and Livelihoods

in Kathmandu

The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of one year. There are very good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Kathmandu Nepal. The position is paid according to paygrade.

To lead and further develop WHH work on Food System, Agriculture, Livelihoods, economic development and Nutrition, ensure the success and quality of the different programmes/projects in line with Welthungerhilfe, governmental standards and policies, coordinate with Welthungerhilfe staff, partners, and stakeholders, and contribute to the further development of the country strategy.

Your responsibilities

The specific responsibilities include:

  • Identify, design, and assess new project ideas, develop concept notes and proposals ensuring an integrated, programmatic approach with a lens on responding to the challenges of climate change.
  • Develop position papers, lessons learned, support evidence creation and documentation.
  • Identify and assess potential new technical and research partners.
  • Prepare high quality reports/documentation for WHH and donor agencies ensuring all requirements are met.
  • Oversee thematic consultancies incl. ToR development and quality assurance of final products (surveys, assessments, evaluations, etc.)
  • Brings in innovation into the program.
  • Assess capacity building needs and provide technical, mentoring, leadership support and backstopping to the project teams, including partners and local government in the field.
  • Coordinate with federal and provincial governmental stakeholders, contribute to Government of Nepal strategies/ policies and maintains active, transparent, and accountable positive relations.
  • Closely liaise with Social Welfare Council for project approval, progress reports, CPAC, evaluations etc. for being familiar with the governmental procedures
  • Attend and represent WHH at relevant meetings, networks, thematic working groups etc. and actively contribute as agreed with the Head of Programs
  • Strengthen relations with national/regional /global networks, research institutes.
  • Decision-making and judgement based on technical and management experience.
  • Accompanying donor, WHH missions from abroad, government officials, other relevant stakeholders to the field.
  • Any other duties assigned by the Head of Programs

Your profile

Required qualification and experience:

  • Nepali citizen having master’s degree in agriculture, food security or related field.
  • High levels of skills and expertise on the subject matter.
  • At least 5 years of similar experience on food security, agriculture, economic development and livelihoods.
  • At least 3 years of leadership experience
  • Very sound understanding and practical experience on programming based on Systems Thinking.
  • Sound understanding and knowledge on Climate Change, Triple Nexus, LRRD etc.
  • Excellent knowledge of sector-related (Food Security and Nutrition) national guidelines, policies, sector strategies as well as international frameworks
  • Knowledge on food security, nutrition and economic development in various contexts viz. humanitarian, development and DRR is an added advantage.
  • Good understanding on gender and social inclusion related issues an asset
  • Excellent in written and spoken English and Nepali languages.
  • Excellent project proposal, theory of change, report writing, case study formulation.
  • Excellent inter-personal communication skills.
  • Excellent Organizational skills.
  • Excellent coordination and facilitation skills
  • Creative, flexible, and pro-active, willingness to learn and to share knowledge.
  • Proven ability to work creatively, innovatively, and effectively with limited direct supervision.
  • Willingness to work in the field, with overnight stays (village level):- remote areas of Nepal.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, and Power point, outlook) and web-based communications systems/ technologies.
  • Knowledge and experience of digital-based (smart-phone) based data collection and analysis.
